Clean oil is the single cheapest thing you can do to make the 2018 Nissan Altima last. This engine takes 0W-20 full synthetic. Here's the procedure and the dealer-vs-Supercanic cost.

Step-by-Step

  1. Warm the engine for 2-3 minutes so the oil drains cleanly, then shut it off.
  2. Raise the vehicle safely on ramps or jack stands. Never work under a car held by a jack alone.
  3. Position the drain pan and remove the drain plug. Let it drain fully (5-10 min).
  4. Remove the oil filter (turn counter-clockwise). Have the pan ready โ€” it holds oil.
  5. Lightly oil the new filter's gasket, then hand-tighten 3/4 turn past contact.
  6. Reinstall the drain plug with a fresh washer and torque to 25 ft-lb.
  7. Lower the vehicle and add 4.9 quarts of 0W-20 full synthetic through the filler.
  8. Run the engine 30 seconds, check for leaks, then re-check level on the dipstick.

โš ๏ธ Heads up: Use only the manufacturer-specified oil weight. The wrong viscosity hurts fuel economy and can void powertrain coverage on newer vehicles.
