Mobile Repair for the Freeway City
The 101, 405, 10, 110, 5 and 134 carry millions of trips a day. Most cars here spend more time crawling in traffic than cruising at highway speed. We work on them in driveways, apartment lots, office parking structures and production sets around the metro area.
LA driving is hard on a car. Stop-and-go heats up automatic transmissions and chews through brake pads. Over time, smog and ocean air corrode brake lines and aluminum parts. The hills in Silver Lake, Mount Washington and the Palisades work suspensions and clutches harder than flat streets do. We fix those problems on-site, so you don't lose a day to a shop visit.
Severe Service Schedule for LA Drivers
Most vehicle manuals list two maintenance schedules: normal and severe. Almost every car in LA falls under severe. So you want more frequent oil changes, earlier transmission fluid service and more brake inspections. We'll set your maintenance schedule by how you actually drive.
For most LA commuters, we recommend full synthetic oil at 5,000- to 7,500-mile intervals, transmission fluid at 30,000 to 60,000 miles depending on the model, and brake inspections every 10,000 to 15,000 miles.
Production Vehicles, Talent Cars, and Crew Trucks
Film and TV work puts a lot of miles on trucks. Production trucks haul gear, grip trucks move between locations all week, and talent cars have to be ready when called. We work on set when the location allows it, and we also come to production company yards to keep fleet vehicles running. Diesel repair is available for grip trucks and other heavy-duty crew vehicles.
Talent and personal cars get the same kind of visit we do in Indian Wells. We keep it quiet, leave the area clean, and use parts and fluids that match the vehicle's spec.
Apartment Living and Curbside Repair
Plenty of people in LA don't have a driveway. We work in apartment lots, private parking spaces and small office lots. We bring absorbent mats and a small canopy for shade, so the spot stays clean and your neighbors don't mind. LA city code does not allow repair work on a public street, so we set up on private property and tell you up front if your spot will not work.
We also handle engine repair, computer diagnostics, cooling system service, electrical work, timing belt and chain jobs, suspension repair, and roadside assistance when you are stuck on the 405 or anywhere else. Nearby Hawthorne in the South Bay is in our area too.
Los Angeles Neighborhood by Neighborhood
Los Angeles is too big to treat as one place. A hill street in Mount Washington and a flat lot in Van Nuys need different plans, even for the same brake job. Below are the areas we get asked about most, with the ZIP codes, the roads and the parking that decide how a visit goes.
ZIP and neighborhood pairings come from the Los Angeles Almanac ZIP list. Everything else is linked where it is used.

Silver Lake and the Hill Streets
The 2010 census counted 37,019 people in about 2.75 square miles here, and renters held 64.3 percent of homes. The neighborhood sits between the Glendale Freeway on the east, the Hollywood Freeway on the south and Virgil Avenue on the west. Its hills are climbed by public stairways such as Descanso, Redcliff and Music Box.
Short, steep trips with a stop at every corner are hard on brake pads and rotors. Most calls here will be brake service or a battery on a car that sits a lot. With so many renters, the usual spot is an apartment lot or a driveway off Glendale Boulevard, Hyperion Avenue or a side street. Ask your building manager before we arrive.
Mount Washington
Mount Washington covers about 1.85 square miles and the city estimated 13,531 residents in 2008. Renters held 45.1 percent of homes in the 2000 census, so more people have their own driveway than in Silver Lake. Eldred Street between Avenue 50 and Cross Avenue has a 33 percent grade, among the steepest streets in the city.
Living on a grade means every trip starts and ends on a hill. Clutches, parking brakes and transmissions take the beating. We need a flat driveway or a lot to lift and jack safely, so tell us if your street is too steep and we will pick a better spot nearby.
The Arroyo Seco Parkway is the main way out. It opened in 1940, runs 8.162 miles and is posted at 55 mph, with no acceleration lanes and a ban on trucks over 3 tons.
Hollywood
Hollywood had 73,747 residents in 2020 bounded by Western Avenue on the east, Melrose Avenue on the south and La Brea Avenue on the west. Renters held 92.4 percent of homes in 2008 data, and 4,000 new apartments were approved in 2019. Paramount moved its headquarters here in August 2025, and Sunset Gower Studios is on the notable places list.
Cars here park in tight garages and street spots, then crawl through the Cahuenga Pass. That mix means weak batteries, worn brakes and overheating on slow days. We work in apartment garages and lots when the manager allows it, and we can meet a production car at a studio lot gate.
Pacific Palisades
Pacific Palisades uses ZIP 90272 and had 23,648 residents in 2023. The Alphabet Streets, first built from 1921, have lots of 5,200 to 7,500 square feet. Palisades Highlands is a master planned area from the 1970s, and its Country Estates section is a gated community of 80 homes.
Palisades Drive runs up Santa Ynez Canyon to the Highlands, and Sunset Boulevard and the Pacific Coast Highway are the main ways out, so hills and slow coast traffic are the daily load. The January 2025 fire destroyed 6,831 structures, so tell us the exact address where the car is parked now. We can work in a driveway or a private lot.
Westside
The Westside includes Brentwood, Westwood, Sawtelle, Palms, Mar Vista, Venice and Playa Vista, plus Culver City and Santa Monica. Its northern edge is the Santa Monica Mountains and the Sepulveda Pass.
The marine layer matters. July highs run 68.8 degrees at the Santa Monica Pier and 80.0 in Culver City, so salt air corrodes terminals and rotors near the beach while inland cars face more heat. A visit near the beach is often a battery or brake job. Inland it is more often a cooling or AC job.
San Fernando Valley
The Valley held 1,815,801 people in 2023 across 260 square miles. Burbank has Warner Bros. Studios and Walt Disney Studios, and Universal City has the Universal lot. Production trucks and crew cars park here by the dozen.
Heat is the story. July highs average 95.0 degrees in Canoga Park and 90 in Burbank, per the Los Angeles climate article. Expect radiators, hoses, batteries and AC. See our cooling system work and the overheating guide. Lots at Van Nuys, Sherman Oaks and North Hollywood apartments work well.
LAX and the South Bay Edge
ZIP 90045 covers LAX and Westchester. The Interstate 405 and 105 meet at the southeast corner of LAX, and the 405 has exits at Century Boulevard and Imperial Highway. For the South Bay next door, see Hawthorne.
The Roads That Wear Cars Out
The 405 climbs and drops through a 5.7 mile Sepulveda Pass built with a maximum grade of 5.5 percent. Caltrans is replacing pavement on 10.2 miles of it, with Uneven Pavement signs and a 55 mph limit in some sections. Rough pavement and long downhills mean tire wear, alignment pulls and hot brakes.
US 101 through the Cahuenga Pass is in a paving project expected to run to summer 2029, with overnight lane closures and night closures of connectors to the 134 and 170. If your trip depends on them, leave extra time. The Arroyo Seco Parkway has no acceleration lanes and almost no shoulders, which makes a breakdown there hard to fix on the spot. Call for roadside assistance and we will find a safe place to meet.

Rules for Working on a Car at Home
The Los Angeles Municipal Code bars repair work on a vehicle while it sits on a public or private street or alley (Section 85.01), with an exception for a disabled car that must be moved. So we plan jobs for a driveway, garage or lot. A second rule, Section 114.01, bans repair work at homes in residential zones between 8 p.m. and 8 a.m. when it annoys neighbors or can be heard 150 feet away
For smog, the Bureau of Automotive Repair guide exempts gasoline cars from the biennial check for eight model years. Fifth through eighth year cars still need a check when ownership changes. If a check light is on, start with a diagnostic.
More Los Angeles Questions
Can a mechanic work on my car on a Los Angeles street?
Not for repairs. Section 85.01 of the city code bars dismantling or repairing a vehicle on a public or private street or alley, except to move a disabled car out of the road. We plan a driveway, garage or lot visit instead. Tell us your address and we will work out the spot.
Does my car need a smog check?
Gasoline cars eight or fewer model years old skip the biennial check, and 1975 and older gasoline cars are exempt. Older cars are checked every two years. A change of ownership also triggers a check unless the car is four model years old or newer. Read more in our failed smog check guide.
Is there help paying for smog repairs?
The state Consumer Assistance Program offers eligible drivers up to $1,450 in repair help and up to $2,000 for retiring a car. Funds depend on each year's budget. State law also caps required repair spending on a biennial check at $650 in many cases.
How do I check that a mobile mechanic is registered?
Auto repair shops in California register with the Bureau of Automotive Repair. Supercanic LLC is registered as ARD 317163, and you can search any shop on the BAR website. Ask for the number before you book.
Common Los Angeles Questions
How far is Los Angeles from your shop?
The drive from our San Jacinto shop to central LA is about 90 miles, or roughly 1 hour and 45 minutes to 2 hours and 30 minutes depending on traffic. John works the LA side of our service area, so most LA calls don't start with the long drive from Hemet.
Can you work on my car in an apartment parking lot?
Often yes, but it depends on the lot rules and the size of the job. Many LA apartment buildings allow basic service in your assigned space. Some buildings forbid any vehicle work, which is something to check with your manager. Tell us your address and we will tell you what we can handle there.
Can you fix my car if it is parked on the street?
Not on the street itself. Los Angeles city code bars vehicle repairs on public streets. If you do not have a driveway, an apartment lot, a private space or your work lot usually works. Tell us where the car is and we will find a spot that follows the rules.
Should I follow my owner's manual schedule or get service sooner?
For most LA driving, the severe-service schedule in your owner's manual applies, not the normal schedule. That usually means earlier oil changes, sooner transmission fluid service, and more frequent brake inspections. Heavy stop-and-go traffic and short trips both qualify as severe.
My check engine light came on stuck in 405 traffic. Now what?
If the light is solid, the issue is usually not urgent and you can keep driving. If it is flashing, that means an active misfire, and you should pull over and call us. We can come to your home or office and pull codes to confirm what is going on.
Do you also serve Hawthorne and the South Bay?
Yes. Hawthorne is part of our regular service area, and we cover much of the South Bay including El Segundo, Inglewood, and Lawndale. We also go to the Westside, Hollywood and the Valley.
